Active Travel Logger Help

Your Wild Atlantic Way journey

Every active day walks you further up the west coast of Ireland, from Kinsale to Malin Head.

Every day you walk, wheel, cycle or scoot to school, you move further along Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. The whole route is 2,500 km, from Kinsale in County Cork all the way up to Malin Head in County Donegal.

You do not have to do anything extra. Just check in each morning.

Where you are going

There are eight places to reach along the way:

Place How far Active days
⚓ Kinsale 0 km the start
🌊 Mizen Head 110 km 5
🦌 Killarney 290 km 12

Reach all eight and you have travelled the whole west coast — 84 active days.

How far you move

Each active day moves you about 30 km up the coast. An active day is one where you walked, wheeled, cycled or scooted to school.

Open Journey to see your trail, how many kilometres you have covered, and what your next stop is. When you reach a place, the page tells you — "You reached Cliffs of Moher!"

Streaks

A streak counts active days one after another. Check in on an active day and it grows. The board will tell you, for example "5-day streak".

Days when school is closed do not break your streak.

Questions pupils ask

Does the bus count? Not for your journey. Walking, wheeling, cycling and scooting move you up the coast. The bus and the train still count as good ways to travel and still show up in your class's figures.

Can I catch up if I miss a day? You do not lose kilometres you have already travelled. You just do not move that day.

Can anyone see it is me? No. Your journey is yours. Teachers and councils only ever see totals for a whole class or a whole school.
