Set your school up

The first ten minutes — school details, the access code, and getting teachers started.

Setting a school up takes about ten minutes and is done once. You will have been sent a sign-in link by your council.

1. Sign in

Use the link in your invitation email. You land on your school's page, headed Setting Up Your Pilot School.

2. Check the school details

Confirm the school name and whether it is a Primary School or a Secondary School.

If your school has an Irish name, add it. Both names are then shown together wherever the school appears, which matters on a bilingual programme — see what the missing-language banner means.

3. Set the map location

Under Map location, click the map to place your school. As the page says: "Click the map to place this school. It then appears on the council and cluster dashboards."

A school with no location still records journeys normally — it just does not appear as a pin on the council map.

4. Note your school access code

Your School Code is on the school's page. This is what teachers type into the whiteboard, and it is the one thing they need: "Teachers enter this code when they open the app — no accounts needed."

Treat the code as a shared credential of the school. Do not publish it, do not show it on a public-facing screen, and do not send it outside the school. If it may have been seen by someone who should not have it, change it — and tell your teachers, because their boards will ask for the new one.

5. Add your classes

Two ways, on the school's page:

6. Print the staff-room poster

Choose Print Staff-Room Poster. It prints "How we log our journeys" with your school access code and three steps for teachers. Put it where teachers will see it.

This is the single most effective thing you can do for adoption. Most teachers never need anything else.

7. Invite another administrator

Optional but worth doing — Invite another school administrator, so the school is not dependent on one person. They are emailed a sign-in link straight away.

You are finished when

The getting-started checklist shows You're all set up 🎉. The last item turns green once the first journeys come in, which happens on the first morning a teacher takes the roll call.

What happens next

Teachers open the board, enter the code once, and take the roll call each morning — see take the morning roll call. You will see the figures on your School Dashboard the same morning.
