Active Travel Logger Help

When the roll call will not work

The problems that actually come up at the whiteboard, and what to do about each.

Work down this page in order — the first two cover most of what happens in a staff room.

"Invalid code. Please try again."

The code was mistyped, or it has been changed. Codes are not case-sensitive, but a letter O and a digit 0 are different characters.

If it still fails, your School Administrator can read the current code from the school's page in Active Travel Logger, or reprint the staff-room poster. Codes are changed from time to time — if one may have been seen outside the school, it should be changed.

"This school's access code has changed."

Someone changed the code since this board last used it. The board says "Taking you back to pick your school…" and asks for the new one. Get it from your School Administrator and enter it once; the board remembers again.

"Too many attempts. Please try again in a few minutes."

Too many wrong codes were entered in a short time. This is a deliberate protection. Wait a few minutes, then enter the correct code — there is nothing to reset.

My class is not in the list

The class has not been created for this school yet, or it was created under a different school. Ask your School Administrator to add it — see classes and codes.

The class is there but has no pupils

You will see "Add students to this class to begin the roll call." The roster is empty. Your School Administrator adds pupils, either by importing the class list or by adding them on the class page.

The pupil count is wrong

Tiles come from the class roster, not from your roll book. If a pupil has left or joined, the roster needs updating — your School Administrator does this on the class page. Until then, extra tiles simply go untapped and missing pupils cannot check in.

A pupil tapped the wrong mode

They tap their tile again — it reads tap to change — and pick the right one. This works until 23:59 on the day of the journey. After that the day is closed and the figure stands.

"That check-in wasn't saved, so the name has been put back."

The tap did not reach the server, usually a brief network drop. The tile returns to its unchecked state on purpose, so nothing is silently lost. Tap it again.

If it keeps happening, it is usually the school network or that board's connection.

"We couldn't save your journey. Please tap your travel mode again."

The same thing, one step later — the mode did not save. Tap the mode again.

The board is on the wrong class or the wrong school

Tap the class name to Change class, or the school name in the header to Change school. Changing school clears the saved code and asks for a new one, so have the code to hand before you do it.

The board went back to asking for a code

Something cleared the browser's storage on that device — a cleared cache, a managed profile that resets overnight, or a private browsing window. Enter the code again. If a particular board does this every morning, it is worth telling your School Administrator — it is fixed in the device's settings.

Reporting a problem with a device

Open tapin.ie/support on the device that is having trouble. It shows the browser, screen, cookie and storage details that whoever is helping you will ask for, and offers Copy everything so you can paste them into an email.

Nothing is sent from that page. As it says: "Having trouble with the app? Share the details below with your school. Nothing is sent from this page — it is only displayed on this device."

Who to ask

Raise anything else with your School Administrator first. Codes, classes and rosters are all fixed there, and it is faster than going to the council.
